Microsoft Productivity Future? Really?
Oh please. NOT another video that oversells the overpromise of an exciting future. I would love to think we’re headed there and soon, but it will take a while. All these concepts are great, but battery and power technology hasn’t really received revolution of any kind. Just because they have that Table Top computing coffee table which is so bloody expensive, doesn’t mean anything.
Apple is moving towards a sound future. While the rest of the industry is heavily focused on touch and gesturing, as much as they are indeed a little more natural in movement, the truth is it gets tiring after a while. Definitely not if you think you’re a mobile warrior looking for cray cray productivity. Voice might be a good way to go, but i truly believe that it’s a combination of both. Why limit yourself with one input or response mechanism? Silent mode doesn’t work for voice-activated tasks and gesture can kick in later.
Where are the damn hoverboards promised to us in 2015? Are we even close? Honestly, big corporations should have the funds to actually eventuate these ideas. We’re moving too slow and we hardly hear any technology or future leadership from battery manufacturers on their improvements or thought leadership for that matter. I think all the other components that fit together should experience the same kind of growth for the future, not simply the overview. It’s not feasible to focus on the wow factor and neglect that operationally, we’re quite far from achieving the concepts.
And there’s poor Nokia Morph Future Phone Concept. We almost forgot they came out with a similar type video to share concepts years ago. They always seem to come up with how they see the future, wow us and we forget. Then someone else comes along and launches a video like the Microsoft one and it’s totally fresh and cool.
I’d say the proof is in the action. Enough talk and concepts - JUST DO IT and wow us, perhaps like Lytro. From conceptualization to execution, they at least are ready to pre-order, from press release, less than a year. Now, that’s brilliant.
