A GeeK.[Slang] 1. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.) 2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual. 3. a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken. I’ve always had life goals. Since i turned 30, i started riding it out, without much thought for goals, aside from career and material possessions.
But then I found out that millions of people don’t live to see their fifth birthdays. And why? Because they don’t have access to clean, safe water.
Ever since attending our Tribal DDB APAC Summit 2011, Always On, i was very touched by many of the case studies we analyzed. “mycharity: water” was one of them. I truly believe that most of us take many things for granted.
That is why, i’ve decided to give up my 34th birthday specifically to this cause. And I’ve decided to make 34 mean so much more. Starting small, all i ask is that every cent that you have, that you would spend on things that aren’t absolutely necessary, please donate it to my cause and help me raise a humble amount of $3,400 as the goal for mycharity: water.
Every cent raised will go directly to fund clean water projects in developing nations. Even better, charity: water will show us exactly which projects we funded once they’ve been fully completed (which takes about 18 months). That means we’ll be able to see the communities we’ve helped!
My goal is to raise $3,400 during my birthday period (okay, i’ll give it some time before and after) until December 31st, for a new hope, my charity: water.
There is no such thing as luck because you can create your own luck with the right attitude and the right state of mind. So take a chance, live a little and see where it takes you. - Martini.
You know, i’m starting to pay attention to Martini a lot now. I saw the last TVC from Netherlands “Martini Moments” and though i liked the craft of the TVC and how it was very lifestyley, i like how it kinda fit with the overall sell and the music was brilliant from Caro Emerald. I loved her voice and her song “A Night Like This”. I guess as much as i loved the craft and the music (more so), i couldn’t relate to it much, more targeted at the women and the whole Sex and the City vibe.
Now this TVC, i must say, i relate. I’m exactly that guy on the left. The pretty mundane, boring kind of a person. I love the ending how it makes me get up and go HELL TO THE YEAH! But at the same time, i see how the guy on the left had so much fun. I think it’s brilliant and again, great use of music and really love it. Luck is an attitude is going to stick!
I will take some time to talk about the music as well. Boy do i love the music, it’s strange how i’ve never invested enough time, but i love that era of jazzy music and all the music that’s inspired by that era. The Andrew Sisters were more popular back then and if you check out their discography, you kinda recognize some songs that have been remade and stuff. Just like that fantastic restaurant Bai Toey, Old Phuket Town, Kata Beach, Phuket, Thailand. That place used to place the best jazz from that era, guess they changed the music, but the food is still fab.
I could go on forever. Inspired by this one TVC. I must say however, visiting the Martini website, i’m very disappointed. This has so much legs to have so much content surrounding that big idea behind the tagline “Luck is an attitude” and sadly, all the budget went to this TVC. Kudos for great TVC, great music, fantastic idea, and okay, i’ve watched it, great. And then?
Well, nice to see great traditional TVCs still find a certain place in the world, but wish it would evolve, just that bit more. Don’t you?
Check out this awesome video of the making of this art piece, which Miguel did with 3.2 million ink dots in 210 hours. This is one of them videos that is so inspirational that it does give you that bit of inertia to go ahead and seize the day, create you own art piece. Miguel is a web developer. Often, what i find interesting about people in my industry of broadly “Advertising” is, almost everyone that’s right for the industry tends to have an artistic side of them, be it art, photography, poetry, videography, writing, etc, but yet their core job function which they are good at, may not necessarily be one and the same. Our world is one where the creative mind or the logical mind, need not be separate and intertwines in a myriad of great and effective work.

The Beauty of an Ugly Addiction. By Frieke Janssens, a Belgian Photog.
It’s kind of creepy but very nicely done. Am quite a fan of Frieke, done amazing things. Wonder if any kids were harmed in the shoot. Quite interesting this piece with the kids and smokes. Check out the rest of the work here.
I have an Apple iPhone 4S, 64GB in Black (iOS 5.01) and an Apple iPad 2, 64GB (wifi) in Black (iOS 5.01). I used to have a 3rd Generation Apple iPod, 8GB but i sold it a while ago because i didn’t need it. Yet i’m currently tempted to get an Apple iPod Nano to use as a watch. Surely none of this makes sense except to an Apple Fan Boy.
If you already have an Apple iPhone 4S, does it make sense for you to have an Apple iPad 2? Does it also make sense for you to have an Apple iPod?
But why would you want to do that? Perhaps the question is why not? Well, this is a classic example where, an idea so simple, can create tons of engagement. It’s easy to execute, and yet so brilliant. People still love to customize their own whatever. Whether it’s to pimp their Facebook profile photo, or create their own porn name, etc.
Tons of fun. Visit iFakeSiri.com I’m just wondering how many you would create?
Yeah, you know what? Captain Planet is going to turn you into a tree unless you do your bit and ensure that you maintain that water is precious. I think he might turn you into a tree too if you do not donate generously to my charity: water.
On a serious note, 1 in 8 people do not have clean, safe drinking water. But you can help. Click here.
Sagres, Portugal’s number 1 beer brand launched a new beer with chocolate, and therefore the world’s first website made out of chocolate was employed to communicate this. I think everything can be made of chocolate. Remember Cadbury’s campaign with that catchy song “Wouldn’t it be nice if the world was chocolate…”. Yeah, i’d like that. A world of chocolate. Mmmm….
